Our Player Philosophy
Our Mission
To create a lifelong pathway and love for the game for players of all levels and experience. Although this is specifically designed as player centered, we strive to ensure that coaches, parents, opponents and officials enjoy all interaction with MUSC as ambassadors of a lifelong passion for the game.
MUSC will always teach our players to play to win, but not at any cost. We believe our club and members must be contributing member of our community and insist in upholding the spirit of fair play. We want to set the standard in both player and personal development using the game of soccer as a vehicle to character development. Performance follows attitude and we will never jeopardize the process for the result.
Our Method
At MUSC we believe that performance follows attitude. Attitude varies at each stage of development, but with a team first attitude, the feeling of being a valued contributor to something bigger, ensures players will invest in the common goal and their specific role and responsibility. Players will be encouraged to participate, venture outside their comfort zone, and to understand that soccer is all about skill acquisition, application and decision making. Our Coaching staff strives to create a culture of teaching, developing, setting standards, discipline, care and personalization. They understand that player development is a journey and that each player's journey is unique.

A Message from our Technical Director, Paul Schultz
The game of soccer provides participants with a wealth of life experience that equips our players with lessons they will apply far beyond the pitch. Whether it is in the classroom/boardroom, preparing for their first college match or on the Sunday league pitch with our peers, soccer is the perfect vehicle to provide players with a healthy lifestyle, social confidence and the resilience that can only be taught through the adversity within competitive sport. It is our goal at MUSC that no matter what your desired destination or starting point, we provide each and every player with the appropriate platform and individual tools for success.
MUSC provides players at all stages of development with the resources they need to enjoy soccer for life through our Long Term Player Development (LTPD) plan aligned with the Canadian Soccer Association's Player Pathway Model. This LTPD ensures that each player is provided with the essential (tactical, technical, psychological, physical) fundamentals at each stage (Active Start, Fundamentals, Learn to Train), so they are equipped for success at the next stage of their development. This begins with our U3 Grassroots Programs through to our Men's and Women's Programs. MUSC has alumni playing at the University/College level, but without question the most rewarding aspect of this role is watching the well-equipped adults they become and the social ties they have created.
First and foremost, MUSC designs our player centered development model to target the person first. We ensure that our participants are excited to come, feel challenged through their development while learning the values of respect, accountability, teamwork and inclusivity. Throughout my 30 years of coaching experience, it has been incredibly rewarding to see these young citizens develop into incredible leaders along whatever path they choose.
Our development philosophy starts with the ball and the player (Active Start - U4 to U6) and progressively introduces the opponent and teammate (Fundamentals - Girls U6 to U8, Boys U6 to U10), and then we introduce the combination with groups of teammates, the concept of team and the role of being a contributing teammate (Learn to Train - Girls U8 to U11, Boys U9 to U12). The ability to execute tactical concepts at the highest level requires a solid technical foundation with a gradual introduction of the the application. Our team of MUSC staff are constantly learning and challenging ourselves to be on the cutting edge of the evolving game, while aligning with the fundamental CSA principles.
Through our MUSC Game Model, developmental curriculum and coaching education, we are continually growing with our players ensuring we are delivering a standardized yet individualized program. Through our Grassroots, Skills Center and Inclusive Academy program, it is important that every player has access to programs. Every player deserves the opportunity to explore and enjoy access to our staff team and programs.
Looking forward to another year of challenging our players, coaches and myself.
